I officially fulfilled the promise I made to myself to finish this up this week, just in time to celebrate Practical Magic's 20th Anniversary! (It debuted in theaters on October 16, 1998---dang!)

Happy with how this turned out.

Have you seen this movie? I loved it.

I made a quick compositional sketch of a poster I have in mind.

I want to make my ultimate Harry Potter movie poster with a simple color palette and a mix of visual elements that speak to each of the 7 (ok, technically 8) films. Here's where I am with it so far.

Chipping away at this... It's only a couple ticks down the priority list so I will get back to finishing it soon.

A little snow in August? Why not!

Colorized my Harry Potter pencil drawing into 6 simple colors appropriate for a true Gryffindor.

Recently finished a pencil drawing of Tintin and Snowy commissioned as a surprise birthday gift for a great guy I know. Happy to share it now that it’s been successfully gifted, and overjoyed to report it has been well received!

I decided to have some fun and apply digital color to the drawing to create a finished poster.

New portfolio piece for my agent on the prompt of middle grade book cover and interior spot. I picked one of my all time favorite novels, The Giver by Lois Lowry.

48 years ago this very week, on April 11, 1970, Apollo 13 launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The 1995 film adaptation is one of my favorite films of all time, so naturally it was a priority to be included in my series of illustrated space movies which began last year with Contact.

Although it has taken me a bit longer than I expected to bring it to completion, I think it proves a nice coincidence that it finished just in time for the anniversary of one of NASA's greatest achievements.

HAPPY SPRING! (Hey, but it's snowing...)

Checking in because it's spring now and even though it's snowing here today I'm dreaming of warmer weather and fresh air and the smell of damp earth and new grass and allergies and the sound of lawn mowers and the twittering of birds and and and and ---

I've actually been VERY busy and productive lately. I sprouted another branch off my creativity tree and began a new side project into colorful abstract art (different from my doodlepaintings). I started working with alcohol ink and art resin following the amazing petri process conceived by artist Josie Lewis. As soon as I saw hers I had to try it for myself. So far I've made 9, three of which are cast in actual plastic petri dishes. From those resin petri I've been able to make high resolution scans and turn them into prints, so I also opened up a new Etsy shop to house my products. I've named this side endeavor CHROMATOZOA, my name for the imaginary colorful pseudo "organisms" (cellular, brainy looking structures) that emerge from this resin/ink process.

I've also been very busy making new doodlepaintings and have created 3 new large circle paintings and 6 mini petri paintings in the past couple weeks. I've also started playing with digitally inverting and adjusting the colors of my doodles to create wildly different experiences.

Working in the circular format has been endlessly inspiring to me. I don't know why but I guess it's clear I just LOVE CIRCLES.

I have spent the past week slowly painting away on my poster for Apollo 13. It is the second in my series of illustrated space movie posters. I'm playing around with trying to reach a sweet spot between realistic painting and stylized illustration in the way I am using black line and highlight edges. I'm learning as I go but I'm happy with where it is headed. I aim to have it finished by the beginning of February.

I've begun working on a colorful 24x36 poster for Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild, my new favorite video game. The composition is basically where I want it to be, and the colors stand at 18 plus paper white, which is A LOT of colors. But I think them necessary since it is such a colorful game. My husband and I are still slowly getting through the DLC after finishing the main game last March. I don't want it to end!
